The Mount Rigi steam train is Europe's first cogwheel train. Visitors can climb aboard the train and embark on a scenic journey up and down the steep mountainside, and enjoy breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps and the surrounding lakes of Lucerne, Zug, and Lauerz
You can hop on to the cable car from Weggis to Rigi Kaltbad or from Kräbel to Rigi Scheidegg. Both routes will allow you to enjoy a breathtaking bird's eye view of the surrounding mountains and lakes. Both places offer a range of hiking trails. Rigi Kaltbad is known for its mineral baths and spa treatments.
Hikers and adventure travelers can choose from 120 kilometers of trails available. You will find trails of varying difficulties, at an altitude of 1,400 meters, allowing to enjoy views of the mountains, slopes, cliffs, lakes, Alpine vegetation, and whatnot!
Mount Rigi offers several observation points including Rigi Kulm, Rigi Staffel viewpoint, and Rigi Scheidegg for visitors to enjoy the stunning views of the Swiss Alps and Lake Lucerne. The observation tower, known as Känzeli, is located near the Rigi Scheidegg viewpoint and offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding area.

Mount Rigi is home to the Steigelfadbalm cave, which is home to the first stone artifacts proven to have been produced by Neanderthals in Central Switzerland. A 42-hectare nature reserve and animal park located near Mount Rigi, the park is home to around 100 different native Swiss wildlife specie. The Rigi Kaltbad Mineral Baths & Spa is a wellness center located on Mount Rigi. It features an indoor pool that leads directly to an outdoor mineral pool, where you can enjoy spectacular Alpine views. The space also features a spa area, sauna, steam baths, and relaxation areas. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of massages and beauty treatments.
Kindli Lakeside Beach is a popular spot for swimming and relaxing by the lakeside of Gersau. The beach features a children’s pool, equipped with toys, a three-meter high diving board and even paddle boat and raft to rent, making it a great place to relax as a family.
Mount Rigi has several chapels and churches that are worth a visit. One of the most famous is the Chapel of St. Michael, which is built into the rocks and offers stunning views of Lake Lucerne. Another popular chapel is the 19th-century Regina Montium on Rigi Kulm, known for its beautiful frescoes. There is also the Chapel of St. Meinrad, dedicated to the patron saint of hospitality and the Astrid Chapel in Küssnacht am Rigi, which is named after the Swedish princess who spent her summers in the area.
There are several playgrounds located throughout Mount Rigi, including ones in Rigi Kaltbad, Rigi Burggesit, and Goldau. The Rotstock Feuerstelle is one of the most popular picnic spots that you encounter along your path down the trail from Rotstock. Best Time to Visit: Mount Rigi is a treat for visitors all year round. During the low season, from November to February, the stays are quite affordable. Avoid weekends and public holidays and visit during the early mornings or after 5 PM to experience smaller crowds. One must try visiting it between 9 AM to 5 PM to catch a view of the natural surroundings.

By Train: World’s oldest cogwheel train is available from villages Arth Goldau or Vitznau.
By Cable Car: Take a cable car starting from Weggis, or Kräbel to reach the mountain top.
By Car: If you are traveling from Zurich, getting a car may be the best option to reach Arth Goldau, from where you can hop on the train to reach Mount Rigi.
Mount Rigi can be accessed for free. However, you need to buy tickets to access the cogwheel train or the cable car to get to the summit.
You can look to buy a day pass or day pass with lunch or even a combo tour that will allow you to explore more of Lucerne, such as the Kaltbad Mineral Baths.

The train tickets to Mount Rigi cannot be canceled or rescheduled.
